Family Law Frequently Asked Questions
Do you have the experience I need?
- As a police officer for nearly nine years, Hines learned to make sense of two opposing sides of a story .
- Hines’ years as a State Prosecutor made him tough on people who don’t take responsibility for their actions.
- Most importantly, Hines is a husband and father, and wants to help your family.
What if I need to talk to you right away?
- It’s our policy to return all calls within one business day. We monitor voice mail and email 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Can I meet everyone who will be working on my case?
- Absolutely. As your advocate, Michael Hines Law operates from a top-down approach. That means most of the work on your case, and certainly all the critical work will be done by Michael Hines, himself, with the experienced support of
his team.
What costs other than your own do you expect will be involved?
- Every case is different, so we cannot know for sure which specialized professionals we will need to bring onboard for your case to increase your chance of success. The types of specialists we may employ include: private investigators, forensic, accountants, physicians, psychologists, arbitrators or mediators.
Based on other cases similar to mine, what’s your estimate of the total cost to me?
- Naturally, the cost of the divorce depends greatly upon whether you have children, the level of conflict in your case, the length of the marriage, and the marital property to be divided. The way in which the attorney answers this question may help you size up the attorney. The honest answer is that it is very difficult to estimate your costs in advance. The best thing you can do to manage your costs is to be organized with your paperwork, and to come prepared with timelines and documentation. Some clients have found it helpful to see a therapist or clergy during this troubled time. They can help you work out your emotions so that you can better spend your time with the attorney on the areas he can
help with.
What is your strategy for my case? How long will it take to resolve my case?
- Again, there are no easy answers here. But know that it is our goal to resolve your case discretely, with minimal conflict, and in a timely manner. Our overburdened judicial system, however, does mean it may take longer to see a judge than you may expect, and you may have to see the judge more than once during the divorce and custody process. Most judges require the couple to attempt to reach an agreement through mediation before they will hear the case.
